SUSTAINING A GODLY HOME
I welcome you to the last week of the month and I am sure you have been tremendously blessed by all the teaching series week after week. Indeed, God has been faithful. This week I will be concluding my teaching on sustaining a godly home and I will be teaching on The Force of Thanksgiving. The Bible says: In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is appreciating God for His good hand on your family. It is acknowledging the finger of God at work in your home. The Scripture says: Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:1-5). It is, therefore, necessary you take out time to thank God intentionally for what He has done since the inception of your home till now. If you can think well to know how many of your mates are yet to be married then you will know how to give Him thanks for your home. Make a list of things He has done for you and your family and thank Him specifically. A wise man once said, “if you know how to think well you will know how to thank well.” You and your family members have all reasons to give God thanks, you may say but you haven’t achieved some things since you got married or you are still believing God for the fruit of the womb just keep thanking Him; shortly, He will make you laugh. Talking about Abraham, the Bible says: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God (Romans 4:20).
How does Thanksgiving Sustain the Home?
Thanksgiving multiplies your blessings: We saw this in the Bible when Jesus gave thanks over five barley loaves, and two small fishes where five thousand men were seated to be fed but as Jesus gave thanks, God multiplied it and there were twelve baskets remaining (John 6:8-13). Thus, giving thanks for what God has done for your family is necessary for multiplication.
Thanksgiving perfect your blessings: When you give thanks, you provoke God to perfect whatever He has started. I heard my son, Pastor David Oyedepo Junior, say “What God gives first is not His best but want you to thank Him so that He can deliver the rest”. Jesus healed ten men who had leprosy but only one of them, who saw that he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. Jesus asked: Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? He then said, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well (Luke 17:11-19). Thanksgiving brings the hands of God to bear on your home for sustenance. I encourage you as a family to make a list of what God has done for you and give Him thanks with an attitude of gratitude. I pray that the grace to make Thanksgiving a way of life is released on you today!
You can’t be thankful without being joyful and joy is a fruit of the Spirit which you can only receive by accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you are yet to make this decision you can say this prayer in faith with me: Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today, and let joy fill my heart. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom. Amen. Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you.
