SUSTAINING A GODLY HOME
I welcome you to the first month of the year 2019 and I am sure you have been tremendously blessed by all of my teaching series, week after weeks, indeed God has been faithful. This month, I will be sharing with you on a topic titled: Sustaining a Godly Home.
What is a Godly Home? A godly home is simply defined as, not just a family where everyone is a Christian, but much more, a Christian-like home. That is the home run by the principles of Jesus, a home run according to demands of scriptures, which represent God’s mind, ways and styles. So, a godly home is a home that is run the same way Christ would run His own home. A home that is Christ-centered. It is not enough to build a godly home, but most importantly it must be sustained by God’s principle because that’s why Christ came to give us abundant life. You must, however, commune with God to make your home heaven on earth which is your inheritance in Christ. Whether your home is sustained or not, is a function of you and not God.
I will be sharing with you some vital truths on how to sustain your home. This week, I will expound on how to carry out your responsibilities. The home has various responsibilities which both the man and the woman must co-operate to fulfill for the home to be sustained. Negligence of either the man or the woman can affect the sustenance of the home. Therefore, co-operation is a necessity. These are some of the responsibilities: The man is the head and leader of the home: The Bible says: For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body (Ephesians 5:23). In any organization there is always a need for leadership, likewise, the home is in need of such good leadership for the sustenance of the home. The welfare of the home has also been committed to the hands of the man to make provision for his household. The Bible explained this fact in 1 Timothy 5:8: If any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel. He must provide specially for his household spiritually, mentally and financially. He must ensure that his family members have what to eat and wear. The man as the father of the children also has the responsibility of training the children. This should be done in conjunction with the wife. It is common for a man to push this responsibility solely on his wife because she is the mother of his children. However, this should be a joint responsibility..
Also, the woman has the primary responsibility of submitting to the leadership of the man as ordained by God from creation. This is not a choice neither is it optional but an instruction. The Bible says: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). This means that she has to put herself under the control of her husband genuinely that is from her heart which will reflect both in her speech and behavior towards her husband. The woman in the home is a homemaker responsible for the care of the home and all the members. There is a saying that: ‘A man can build a house but it takes the woman to make a home.’ The Bible says: Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands (Proverbs 14:1). Thus, making the home involves both physical and spiritual responsibilities. Furthermore, the woman as a mother has a responsibility towards her children in raising them up in the way of the Lord. The Bible says: Train up your child in the way that he should go… (Proverbs 22:6). Training up your children includes meeting their spiritual needs, ensuring that they grow in the knowledge of God and His Son Jesus Christ, physical needs and also social needs.
When the man and woman both play their role well, it becomes easy to sustain the home and no storm of life will be able to destabilize their home because of the force of agreement. Nevertheless, if one party does not co-operate in fulfilling his/her own responsibilities the other party should not use that as an excuse for negligence, but rather fulfill his/her own part and pray for grace for the other party. To be able to walk in the light of these responsibilities, you need grace from God which is released when you surrender your life to Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you have not done that before, just say this simple prayer of faith with me: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom. Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you.
