MARRIAGE- A GARDEN FULL OF TREASURES
So far, we have seen how to dig out the treasures in the marriage garden. Also, you were told that the marriage garden has trees and rivers. In this last segment of this series, I will be showing you how to Dress and Keep the Garden.
God put man (male and female; husband and wife) into the garden for two reasons: first, to dress it, and second, to keep it. God’s Word says: And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it (Genesis 2:15).
Dressing a garden simply means caring for it. When dressing a garden, you remove all unwanted elements, such as weeds. You water it and put manure in it, so the yield can be high. Labour, time, diligence, patience, among other things, are involved. When you dress the garden, you make it beautiful and its productivity is increased. It is the same thing with marriage. For you to enjoy the best of it, it is your duty to make it fit. Don’t be too lazy, selfish, careless or indifferent. Invest spiritual labour in prayer, in study of the Word, sharing and diligently apply the virtue of patience and see what God will do.
It is not good enough to dress your marriage garden, without keeping it. Keeping the garden means protecting, giving it a covering and avoiding any exposure to danger. If a garden is well dressed but is not kept, any destroyer can have access to it. Consequently, in a moment, all the labour spent on it will be destroyed. It should be shielded from the enemy, who is the destroyer. No matter how well you dress a garden, as long as it is not kept, it shall be thrown down and trodden upon.
The garden you cannot dress you cannot keep. Adam dressed, but did not keep his garden; no wonder, the devil was able to come in and cause some damage. Shield your home from the attacks of the enemy; be concerned about the company your spouse keeps, his/her likes and dislikes, his/her movements, etc. Keep your garden or else after your spouse has been beguiled, you will also be affected. As you do your own part in dressing and keeping the garden, trust in the Lord absolutely for, Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain (Psalms 127:1).
God has mapped out a course for both the man and his wife to follow if they intend to enjoy the gold in the land. God’s Word says: And the gold in that land is good (Genesis 2:12).
But to tap the best the land has to offer, there is a condition attached. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19). The man and his wife have to be willing to obey the instructions of the Lord, as well as purposefully obey them.
To keep and dress your marriage garden, you need the grace of God upon your life. God’s grace is available to you when you become a bona fide child of God.
To become a child of God, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood.
