DOMINION IN YOUR FAMILY LIFE (2)
I count it a great joy to bring God’s Word your way again today. Last week, I started a series on Dominion in your family life and how possible it is to enjoy it. I taught on how obedience is the master key to enjoying family dominion. However, this week, I will be discussing another way of enjoying family dominion – unity between family members and others around us.
To enjoy dominion in your family, make sure there is unity of purpose in all that you set out to do. The Bible says in Psalm 133:1: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Unity in the family fosters dominion. There should be transparency to enable your family to know where you are leading them to. This makes it easy for them to follow and brings about the much-needed unity that culminates in dominion.
When you are united as a family, your dominion is unquestionable and apparent. Genesis 11:6 says: …Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. This is dominion indeed! Also, 1 John 4:20 declares: If a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? For instance, you will see some Christians, worshipping in the same church, having problems with one another. Such shouldn’t be spoken of among believers.
The responsibility of living peaceably is not only on one person but on all family members. A husband should ensure that peace reigns between him and his wife. Parents should teach their children how to live peacefully. Also, husband and wife should be at peace with their in-laws. Scripturally, envying and strife are not only sinful, but they also bring evil upon the members of the family. Hebrews 12:14-15 says: Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. This Scripture says you should follow peace with all men, not only believers but for unbelievers as well. From the above scripture, we understand that if you do not live peaceably with people around you, three things are bound to happen:
Fall Short of God’s Grace
Grace is unmerited favour. Something you don’t work for, you don’t earn, but you receive. God is the sole custodian and He says it will elude whosoever will not obey His commandment to live in peace. Anyone living in hatred, bitterness, malice and all sorts has come short of the grace of God. Your family shall not fall short of the favour of God that makes for dominion! A Christian, who is not living in peace with other family members, but keeps malice, walks in hatred or anger, will never have an effective prayer life. Until you learn the act of living peaceably with others, the grace of God upon your life will not find fulfilment. Avoid anger, hatred and strife; they are little, little foxes that spoil the vine and frustrate the grace of God upon an individual’s life (Songs of Solomon 2:15).
Root of Bitterness Springs Up
When you are not living at peace with someone, bitterness comes in and begins to build up in your heart towards that person. Remember, God is not where bitterness is. Why? God is love. Light cannot dwell with darkness. He cannot manifest His power where there is hatred. It doesn’t matter whether the person is a Christian or not, as long as you have bitterness in your heart against anyone, you carry a burden and your prayers are hindered.
Defilement Sets In
If you don’t live at peace with one another, you get defiled in the mind spiritually and physically. Your thought pattern towards that individual changes and you forget any good thing the person has ever done. The only thing that comes to your mind is the evil he has done to you. When you live peaceably with people and you forgive them for any wrongdoing against your person, you are the one to benefit. Let the lifestyle of Christ reflect in your family, neighbourhood, office, market place and everywhere you find yourself. Let people identify you with Christ. The Bible says: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
To live peaceably with others, you need Jesus the Prince of Peace in your life. If you are not yet born again and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you.
